Advisory Council for Historic Preservation
What is a Section 106 Historic Review?
Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA) requires Federal agencies [e.g., FAA] to take into account the effects of their undertakings* on historic properties, and give the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) a reasonable opportunity to comment. [*e.g., FAA approvals for the proposed North Airfield Development at Hanscom]
The ACHP is an independent federal agency that oversees Section 106 review and issues the regulations that implement it. The ACHP must be notified when an undertaking may adversely affect a historic property.
