Key Talking Points for your Call to Governor Healey
Part 1 - Introduction - Give context to who you are, your town/city, and why you are calling
I am a concerned parent in (your town/city) who cares about the climate and the future of all children.
I am a concerned citizen and member of Mothers Out Front in (your town/city).
I am a grandmother in (your town/city) with deep concern for future generations.
Part 2 - What you are calling about.
I’m calling about the proposed Hanscom Field development to inform Gov Healey that I oppose private jet hangar expansion there and anywhere.
I’m calling about the proposed Hanscom private jet development to urge Gov Healey not only to stop it but to send a message to all airports that private jet expansion cannot be allowed in the midst of a climate crisis ANYWHERE.
Part 3 - Explain your concerns by using 1 point below. Please focus your comment on the climate impacts of the private jet expansion as this is the issue that the Governor is in the best position to act on.
Private jets are the worst form of travel per passenger in terms of carbon emissions.
Private jets produce 14 times more pollution than commercial planes, on a per passenger basis & 50x more than trains.
Massport’s proposal to dramatically increase private jet capacity will have devastating climate impacts.
If the plan goes forward, private jet emissions from Hanscom alone could negate up to 70% of the climate benefits from solar PV ever installed in Massachusetts.*
Private jet travel is a privilege for the few at the expense of many.
Eighty percent of the world's population has never been on a plane, yet they bear the brunt of climate change.
Massport’s expansion plan goes against everything we are working for in Massachusetts and threatens our ability to meet our climate goals.
Why should private luxury travel for a few be allowed to expand in the midst of a climate emergency?
Why should Massport be allowed to expand its infrastructure at Hanscom for the most polluting form of travel for its carbon footprint, while the rest of Massachusetts is working arduously to reduce its carbon emissions to help get the Climate Crisis under control?
I have every reason to believe that if Healey had been sitting Governor in Dec 2022, she – unlike Gov Baker – would never have approved the North Airfield land swap deal between Massport & Runway Realty Ventures, which would have stopped the proposed expansion in its tracks.
Private jets are the worst form of travel per passenger in terms of carbon emissions.
Private jets produce 14 times more pollution than commercial planes, on a per passenger basis & 50x more than trains.

… I ask that Gov Healey holds the air travel sector accountable for achieving carbon reductions, as is required of other economic sectors.
